Saturday Quiz was born out of Melbourne’s infamous second lockdown in 2020. Already having tried baking bread and failing to learn TikTok dance moves (Everyone remember drinking too much wine and listening to The Weeknd?) - we decided that this time, if we were going to stay at home, we may as well try to be a bit more productive.

We love a weekend quiz - especially a newspaper one from a cafe during brunch. So we had the idea to create  that same experience during lockdown. With email inboxes already full and work laptops closed on a Saturday morning we thought: why don’t we send a text message out?

So we put a call-out asking if anyone would like to receive a quiz via SMS - we got about 50 people willing to give us their mobile numbers. This was on a Wednesday - we hadn’t even built a website or written a quiz yet!

Three days later, the first edition of Saturday Quiz was sent. We’ve had a few road bumps since then (we may have accidentally sent it out on a Friday, or sent it twice) but over the last couple of years we must be doing something right as 15,000 of you have signed up to get the quiz each week.
